Production of hypernatremia and hyperosmolarity in the diabetes insipidus dog infused with Ringer's solution.

چکیده
SIXCE diabetes insipidus is a disease invariably associated with elaboration of urine hypotonic to plasma, it was hypothesized that the diabetes insipidus dog would deA'elop hypernatremia and plasma hyperosmolarity with sustained infusion of isotonic fluid. To test this hypothesis experiments were undertaken to measure the effects of sustained infusion of Ringer's solution on plasma sodium concentration and osmolarity in diabetes insipidus (DI) and intact dogs. It was found that the DI dog, in contrast to the intact animal, consistently developed significant hypernatremia and plasma hyperosmolarity during infusion of Ringer's solution. It is suggested that assessment of the plasma response to Ringer's infusion may serve as a simple, safe, clinical test for the diabetes insipidus state in man.

دیابت بیمزه پس از زایمان واژینال: گزارش موردی
Background: A variety of endocrine disorders can complicate pregnancy. Diabetes insipidus although uncommon, may have devastating effect on pregnancy outcome, if unrecognized and untreated. The etiology of diabetes insipidus is often unknown, many cases are likely autoimmune, with lymphocytic infiltration of the posterior pituitary gland. Massive polyuria, caused by failure of the renal tubular...
متن کاملMagnetic resonance imaging and clinical findings in a miniature Schnauzer with hypodipsic hypernatremia.
A 6-month-old miniature Schnauzer presented with hypernatremia and clinical signs of vomiting, diarrhea, inappetence, and lethargy. The dog did not consume water on its own. Hypernatremia and the related clinical signs were resolved by fluid administration. Endocrinological investigations and urinalysis excluded the possibility of diabetes insipidus and hyperaldosteronism. Therefore, the dog wa...
متن کاملSevere rhabdomyolysis due to adipsic hypernatremia after craniopharyngioma surgery.
UNLABELLED The association of diabetes insipidus and adipsia after craniopharyngioma surgery has high morbidity. Hypernatremia can be caused by adipsia and be aggravated by diabetes insipidus. Rhabdomyolysis rarely occurs. CASE REPORT This is the first report of a diabetic patient with craniopharyngioma who developed diabetes insipidus and adipsia after surgery, evolving with severe hypernatr...
متن کاملHereditary nephrogenic diabetes insipidus: a major conundrum during labour and delivery
Hypernatremia will develop when a patient with nephrogenic diabetes insipidus cannot drink enough water to match her large obligatory urinary water loss. In preparation for monitoring labor and delivery in a woman with hereditary nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI), our objective was to avoid dysnatremias and plan how to treat one should one occur. Specific concerns were raised regarding her a...
متن کاملHypernatremic dehydration, diabetes insipidus, and cerebral venous sinus thrombosis in a neonate: a case report
Background In breast-fed neonates, hypernatremia may occur from inadequate breast milk production, central or nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, gastroenteritis, or salt poisoning. Hypernatremic dehydration is a known risk factor for cerebral sinus thrombosis and death. We report a breastfed neonate with hypernatremic dehydration, diabetes insipidus, cerebral sinus thrombosis, and disseminated int...
